Newsletter9/21/2020 Student Mailboxes Students should have emptied out their mailboxes today. However, there has been very little to send home so far as we have been doing the majority of our work in notebooks, in workbooks, and online. Google Classroom, Class website, Cursive I have added a link to our Google Classroom on our Student Sites page. Students will need to be logged into Google to access. We've also explored a few new Reading resources on the Student Sites page including Tumblebooks and Newsela. Students should be able to access these outside of school if they need any additional reading material. Next week, students will start learning cursive on Mondays. Not only is this beneficial for fine motor skills, it also helps students to be able to read cursive more easily. Add to your Calendar Oct 14: Picture Day at Ellicott for our class. Snacks Here is the ORDER FORM for snacks / treats. Please print out and send in with your child if you would like them to have one of these items at lunch. They need to have money in their lunch account or bring exact change. Open House Have a great weekend!

A Few Activities from this Week Reading - we are reading independently and practicing writing short 'jots' as we read to show our thinking. We have started logging the books that we read. Writing - we each drew a map of a place that we know well, such as our neighborhood. We're using this map as an inspiration for future short true stories. Math - we are exploring simple story problems that show multiplication. Example-- There are 5 trees. Each tree has 6 apples. How many apples are there in all? We're also learning to draw models that represent these problems. Science - we completed a Mystery Science activity about using fossils to predict an ancient habitat. Social Studies - we read about the US Constitution for Constitution Day, and learned about a few different New Year celebrations around the world including Rosh Hashanah which begins tonight. Chromebooks- every student logged into our Google Classroom and we have attempted a few simple morning assignments. (We're getting there!) We all accessed our XtraMath accounts, which is a site that we use to practice math facts. Right now, we are all reviewing addition. We also logged into a math site called Prodigy. XtraMath and Prodigy are both sites that can be accessed at home. If your child wants to do this, you may need to email me for a password or Pin number to log them in. We also had a fire drill! Everyone is already a pro at mask-wearing! Dismissal Remember to send in a note for any change in the normal pickup plan. When in doubt--- just send in a note with your child in the morning. The latest Parent Pickup schedule: Families with last names beginning with A - I 3:00PM - 3:10 PM Families with last names beginning with J - P 3:10PM - 3:20 PM Families with last names beginning with Q - Z 3:20PM - 3:30 PM Have a great weekend!
